Top 10 Most Disappointing Anime of All Time

They’re not the worst anime of all time, but they certainly let us down. In this list we’re counting down some of the anime that just didn’t live up to the hype.
How do you go from Attack on Titan to Kabaneri? How do you adapt Devil May Cry badly? Why the hell are they still using CGI for Berserk? We love you anime, but you’re tearing us apart. Expect plenty of bad sequels and manga adaptations on this list!

  1. What about fucking Sword Art Online: first 12-14 episodes, good story plot, lovable characters, amazing animation, intriguing conflict, amazing boss fights, the típical. The first season made it, but after the fairies, guns, and other stuff it all went to shit, how the fuck do you ruin such a good anime. Lame character development and story plot, and it’s based on the excuse that Kirito won’t let anyone else die. It fell so much to having more fanservice and having asuna almost being raped by tentacles

  2. 100% agree on the Ace Attorney series. Excellent games, terrible in any other form. I’d also put Eden of the East up there, simply because the characters, story, and style were all interesting but the ending left you feeling unfulfilled in almost every way possible.

  3. This is probably the first time I’ve really disagreed on multiple entries. Berserk has the terrible CGI, but you get used to it and the narrative is still Berserk. Also, I read all the manga last month and don’t understand what you you’re really objecting to with them taking liberties with the plot. They skipped the introductory arc, lost children arc, and condensed meeting Farnese and killing the dog apostle into a single arc. Other than skipping the lost children arc, I don’t object to the changes they made.

Kiznaiver wasn’t Oscar material but I don’t think it did poorly. I enjoyed the entire show and don’t think it deserves to be on this list. I can agree to your assessment only if you assumed it’d hold up to Kill la Kill, otherwise it was fine as an independent work.

Psycho-Pass 2 was underwhelming compared to the original, but it still held up well. Similar to my assessment of Kiznaiver, except you do have a good reason to compare it to the original Psycho-Pass. I do agree that it deserves to be on this list, but not Top 5.

Despite my disagreeing, I do have to praise some of your selections here. Kabaneri fell flat, Tokyo Ghoul Root A will always remain a rightful punching bag of the anime community, and Robotics;Notes was just a mistake. It astonishes me that Root A and Robotics;Notes failed so royally. At least I got a bit of a warning for Root A since they changed so much in the original anime and censored it to high hell!

Great work guys! Glad to see more of this style of content
