A false awakening is a dream where a person thinks they’ve woken up from their sleep – when really they are still sleeping. To some of you – this may already sound terrifying – imagine going about your life thinking its real – but you’re actually dreaming – what if that’s happening right now? To those of you that aren’t convinced of how scary this can be – I’ve compiled some of the creepiest examples of this. Real stories from real people. My name is Danny Burke and this is the Top 10 Scary False Awakening Stories.

  1. One time, i was busting to pee,
so i walked down the hallway to the bathroom, it was night time and very dark
so i flick the switch to turn on the bathroom light but the light did not turn on.
    the light bulb cracked.
all the sudden i realised there was something very wrong,
    it was darker then usual.

i could not see my own hand,
on closer inspection i realised i didn’t have a body at all.

i had this gut wrenching sensation that i was dead
and thoughts of that nature occurred.
    The darkness got to me.
at that moment i freaked out and i exploded into peaces and i was instantly thrown back into my body.
i sat up out of bed and said to myself ohh crap now i actually do need to pee GREAT!,
i walked down the hall way, it was dark.
i knew what was about to happen….
    i just knew it,
    i could feel it.

sure enough when i flicked on the switch
the light did not turn on
    ….again i started to panic,
the light bulb did break but this time for real….whatever real is.

  2. I remember having dreams when I would falsely “wake up” 3 or 4 times before actually waking up, it’s crazy scary

  3. I had a false awakening and a dream that’s so significant i felt guilty of something terrible that had happened 4 years before i dreamt.

  4. False awakenings are not fun to go through, so are sleep paralysis fits. Sometimes they coincide with each other. Wonder if there is a connection?
