  1. I love Wall-e. But I always wonder what if. What if the entire movie was like the first half. No real dialogue. Just body language and the expressive beeps and bloops. A throw back to old cartoons where the physical dialogue, music and sounds were the voice of the show.

  2. The Iron Giant should’ve been more than just an Honourable Mention for its strong anti-war and aftermath of war messages. It’s specifically set during the Cold War because of how much fear was instilled in both children and adult’s minds during that time. If you’ve heard anyone who lived during that time talking about it, you’ll know that a lot of them are still afraid of the “Red Scare” to this day. The message of the movie was really that fear wasn’t the answer. It’s one of the few (possible) alien movies set during or after this time period that actually says the human race is wrong for immediately acting with violence against the unknown. And it’s a kids movie! This issue is a very serious one and not many kids movies will broach the subject.

(Somewhat unrelated but) In some ways, I think kids movies are almost better for teaching these emotional kinds of lessons, partially because its very rare to see an adult movie with similar messages that aren’t extremely and overly graphic, and partially because the message isn’t meant to be subtle. It’s meant so that both kids and adults can understand what the movie is trying to say. A lot of adult movies have very interesting messages that are very easily misinterpreted, while it’s nearly impossible to misinterpret the meaning of movies like The Iron Giant or any of the movies mentioned in this video.
