  1. I don’t know about caterpillars in Maine or RI but I DO know that Utah periodically has migrations of wingless locusts called “mormon crickets” that behave just like the new england caterpillars.

It’s a shame we cant put pics up on here, we had millions of caterpillars on several trees along just one street in our city, it wasnt on every tree just every couple of trees amongst groups of trees and they became white whilst the other trees stayed caterpillar free and green. We have no idea why the infestation happened but they disappeared just as fast as they arrived leaving white trees amongst all the green ones. I took photos of it all including the millions of critters

  10. Those are gypsie moths and they can take over an area as they did in my neighborhood by the hundreds of millions …. They ate every leaf off every tree in the entire area ….you can hear them munching like a horror show..
