  1. There’s a scene in 2001 where a pen floats out of a man’s pocket and drifts around the shuttle taking him to the space station. I believe Kubrick actually had a huge piece of glass made with the pen embedded in it. They moved the plate around to give the impression the pen was floating in air. He did all kinds of stuff like that throughout the movie and the effects look very real. Even at its coolest…CGI always looks like CGI. I like high quality old school effects better…but then I’m old. ;~)
